In Sacramento, the best-known bakeries and bagel shops have lines on weekend mornings, so arrive early or order ahead where the shop offers it. Across California, immigrant bakeries add Mexican pan dulce, Vietnamese banh mi bread, Chinese buns, Middle Eastern sweets and European rye to the mix, and many gluten-free and vegan bakeries have opened in larger cities. Check the listing for hours, whether the shop accepts custom cake orders and its Google rating before you go, and call about allergens, since small kitchens often share equipment. Day-old bread and end-of-day discounts are common if you ask.
Hours are published for 7 days a week. The most common schedule is 11 am–9 pm. Sacramento is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around Sacramento is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Love love love this Sacramento staple! This place is a must during the summer or if someone is visiting. I have been coming since I was little and it seems to get busier every year, which is nice that they get so much business and they are able to serve their ice cream at other establishments. The inside is small and gets crowded quickly with everyone ordering/waiting for pickups. They have a ton of flavors to choose from, you can get samples, and the workers are on top of things so it doesn’t take forever after ordering to get yours. There are lots of tables with umbrellas and benches outside for you to sit at. It’s a great spot to get a sweet treat by yourself or with a group, and it would be easy to get some treats and go hang out at Land Park too. I love getting their 50/50 freeze, usually vanilla ice cream and raspberry freeze! Definitely recommend Gunther’s.

What can I say that hasn't been said about Gunther's? It's a local icon and must-try for those visiting Sacramento. Every restaurant in the area that serves their ice cream wears their name like a badge of honor. They're best known for their ice cream and boast many flavors, but their pies and ice cream cakes are also very delicious. The ice cream is rich and creamy. The lines are out the door during summer but move very fast so try to take a look at their menu before ordering. Samples will be hard to get during rush hour

Gunther’s Ice Cream was an amazing experience from start to finish. We tried the 50-50, ice cream, and shakes, and everything was full of flavor and absolutely delicious. The staff was very patient and friendly, especially when my son was having a hard time deciding what he wanted to eat. They even offered taste testing, which we really appreciated. The service was excellent, and the whole visit felt welcoming and enjoyable. We will definitely be coming back again and highly recommend Gunther’s Ice Cream to anyone looking for great treats and outstanding customer service.

Came here after dinner for a sweet treat and it definitely hit the spot. I ordered the mini nut cone, a sundae with rocky road ice cream, chocolate fudge, and peanut butter, plus a 50/50 real fruit freeze with strawberry and orange. The mini nut cone was cute and the perfect size for a quick bite. The sundae was delicious—the fudge and peanut butter combo was rich and flavorful, and the rocky road had plenty of marshmallows, which made it even better. The medium fruit freeze was huge. The strawberry flavor paired really well with the vanilla ice cream, while the orange was a bit bitter on its own but tasted much better mixed with the vanilla. The place was packed, with people constantly coming in and out, and orders being called by ticket number, which added to the lively atmosphere.

Stumbled upon this place when I was in the area with a group of friends. Although the line was quite discouraging, the service was quick and the ice selections were great. I got the Taro scoop and enjoyed the flavor. Some of my friends enjoyed the fruit freezes ( a combination of flavored ice cream and puree fruit). The mango and pineapple was a hit.
